Hurricane Sandy Updates

Dear Customer,

This email is to notify you about Hurricane Sandy currently tracking the north eastern seaboard. We have mobilized our emergency procedure plans to ensure we have the necessary staffing and resources should the Hurricane make landfall near our facility. We don’t expect to encounter any issues caused by Hurricane Sandy, but we want to ensure you know that we are prepared.

We know your IT infrastructure is critical to your business. We strongly recommend that you back up your data and take any other necessary precautions to avoid disruption to your business.

Currently, the effects of Hurricane Sandy has not impacted operations at any of our east coast facilities. Staffing in New York is remaining on site and will be available for any remote hands requests.

14:40 PT - The New York facility has made the transition over to generator power due to a drop in commercial power.

17:36 PT - New York site is still on generator, facility team's routine checks shows data center is operating at normal levels. Building reports that the lobby has taken in some water.

19:27 PT - Building has detected some flooding in the 1st and 2nd basement due to the storm surge. Extent of the damage will not be determined until the basement is accessible. The fuel system has a header with 5000 gallons of fuel and will be the primary supply for the next 12-24 hours. They are also observing some lowering of the water level outside the building.

00:30 PT - We are still running from emergency generator power. Water has receded and we are currently waiting for a report back from building engineers on the status of the fuel and power systems that were located in the basement. We will post further updates when we have them

05:00 PT - At this point we have an estimate of 4 hours for the fuel left on our generators. Our techs and facility are continuously working to get emergency fuel delivery on time and was looking to set-up a temporary tank and pump since the basement is still flooded. In the event of not receiving the fuel on time, worst case scenario is we will have to gracefully shutdown the facility. More updates to follow once available.

06:30 PT - We are going to implement a controlled shutdown of NY Data Center at 10:45 ET. Customer communications is being prepped.

9:24 PT - The New York facility is still on generator power, sustaining longer than initially estimated. We will have the latest update on the remaining fuel available, along with the arrival of fuel replacement shortly.

Currently, PEER 1's onsite datacenter staff, building and mechanical engineers have been able to successfully sustain our generators and fuel supply through an estimated time of 2:00PM EST.
A fuel delivery is en route to the facility but due to the various street closures and general road conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy, the expected ETA of the fuel truck is approximately 1 hour.
If the fuel delivery is not able to be made before 2:00PM EST, PEER 1 will need to initiate a suspension of all services at our affected facility beginning approximately at 2:15PM EST.

Given these circumstances, we want to ensure our customers are aware of every option available to you.
Your current options are to:
1. immediately power up your solution with the understanding that you will most likely need to power them back down at 2:00PM EST if no fuel confirmation is made by PEER 1.
2. wait until the fuel refill confirmation is provided by PEER 1 via these forums and then safely power up your solution on our generator power.
Both options will require monitoring these forums for additional updates due to the nature of the circumstances currently being experienced at our New York City facility.
